In 2017 Lake Ontario's water level was at record high, resulting in flooding all over Toronto Island. Using wood from fallen trees as a result, these two works highlight the dynamic relationship between humans and their environment through the lens of Toronto islands. By using timber selected and chewed by beavers, the form is dictated in part by the instinct of the industrious animal, while simultaneously created to serve humans with plush foam and repurposed leather hide. The paired piece contrasts a sharp, live-edge wedge seemingly balanced atop a base on sinuously shaped log.
