Divided/Combined, 2019
chair
solid cherry, polyethylene cord
The exploration of bound wooden structures led to Divided, Combined - A seating object split into two detached halves, stitched back together with polyethylene paracord. The piece features a suspended seat and tall back legs that are linked. Despite its sturdiness, the user may feel fear to sit down. This conceptual object asks the viewer to ponder the space between broken and incomplete.
This question opens diverse narratives - some of fragility, fracture or repair, and others of the dysfunctional or incomplete becoming whole.
